Half Day Field Combo Tour:
This fun while learning filled program is the Estuarium's most popular tour option. An intensive information packed introduction to the greater estuarine environment, the three hour (minimum) tour draws rave reviews from school age and adult tour groups alike. The three venues visited sit within a single square mile in the Old Village section of Port Royal, SC.
The tides dictate the order of visitation to the three venues and whether it is a morning or afternoon tour. There is some walking required with the field venues and while there is seating on the boardwalk at Sands Beach, participants should be prepared to stand during portions of the presentations.
At the Estuarium:
Introduction to the estuary - the estuarine food web - predatory snails - species life cycles - creature feeding - Shamud the Show Mudminnow.
The Sands Beach:
Introduction to the intertidal zone - the tides - life cycle of the oyster - oyster reefs as habitat - cast net throwing.
Port Royal Seafood docks:
Tour of the docks - life cycle of the white shrimp - the commercial shrimping industry - how the boats and rigging work.
The tour fee is $15 per person all ages, $150 min. Commercial group tour leader and driver comp. Not recommended for school groups grade 2 or younger.
