![]() Battery Creek at high tide 2006 Community Workshop Series Continues. . . A Message from our Chairman…. We can see the telltale signs of change and new growth in the environment. There are changes at the Lowcountry Estuarium too! We recently received several grants that will allow the LCE to continue presenting our educational programs in the four county area. In 2005, the Estuarium staff and volunteers provided 58 in-class educational programs at 16 schools; they also hosted 17 classroom visits to the Estuarium and provided outdoor field programs to marsh and beach sites for 20 classrooms. The LCE has also had some new additions to the Board and they have jumped right in and are using their expertise to help us move forward. Gail Clark, our new Education Coordinator, came to us from California and is proving to be an invaluable asset to the Estuarium. She is developing new education programs and increasing the LCE presence in our local schools through in-class and outdoor field programming. Leigh Stone is using his expertise to help us identify and prepare grants to get us on a more stable financial foundation. Last but not least, Ginny Steadham joined the LCE Board to assist with our finances, fundraising, and membership. We welcome all our new Board members! Our website continues to expand thanks to the work of Board member Billie Lindsay. Look for new features including the Curator’s Corner. In the coming months, the LCE is planning a membership and sponsorship campaign to start building our capital finance fund for a new facility. Look for our booth at the upcoming 51st Annual Beaufort Water Festival in July. Have a great summer! Gerard Boe, LCE Board Chairman
